My Grandmother's Kitchen

In my grandmother’s kitchen, minutes turned to years,
memories melted into eternity.
Rays of sunlight danced in among the blue walls, white cabinets,
smiles and laughter
left imprints on my heart.
Time could have gone on forever there
amid biscuits and batter,
pies and dreams.
There was nothing more to want, little did I understand,
she and I bustling around, baking, finding perfection,
moments together, now just a thread in time.
Someone else has that kitchen now,
I wonder if they know
as they mill about in that small place
they walk upon my past dreams, my aspirations, my best memories
of an incredibly gracious, lovely woman.
