The sunflowers are
loosing some of their luster
serving as a reminder
that summer is not forever
like it seemed once
when long ago
and far away
the lightening bugs
like tiny marvels
bursts of brightness
flew under
a starry night
and the stars,
you could see them
but there was still
mystery in that night air
a darkened solace
after a hot day
of riding a bicycle
down that winding driveway
under the canopy of
tree-lined
and southern-style homey
remnant of
Georgia people
that little place
surrounded by
the blackberry orchard
fields of peas
and watermelon
maybe the best place
for summer
now I wonder
where the lightening bugs flew
and why the stars are dimmer
Where the Fireflies Go
Published inPoetry
Lana, there are no fireflies here in L.A. :^( I used to catch them in my hands.
Yeah, there aren’t any where I live now either…must be an environmental issue ๐
Oh, that’s too bad. I always figured they had to live in certain climates and L.A. wasn’t one of them. Guess that’s somewhat of an environmental issue.
beautiful poem… nothing lasts forever is beautifully described in these lines…
