Autumn
you are
at once hot-handed
shifting gears in your
blustery boots
November was singing
like a spoiled canary
prodding us
away from
sunny windows
threatening us
with an awkward
northerly chill
this blatant wind
skulking and snatching
tossing up
a hissy fit
passing the mandate
on to winter
The seasons do shift gears in Texas!
Yes they do, they pack quite a punch, ha ha. It just now became cold her. Yesterday it was almost 50 degrees and we were all telling the kids to stay inside and wait for the bus because it was so cold, LOL. π
Its so beautiful!π
Plz do check my recent related blog as well

Would love to have your reviewπ€
Thank you so much, I will definitely visit your blog π
yeh, I think we’re just a wee bit past the passing of the mandate to winter. ugh!
Who needs mandates like that, ha ha. π
I don’t need this white stuff after Dr. King’s birthday
Agreed!
November does have tantrums, doesn’t it? I love the “spoiled canary.”
A perfect description of the month, Lana.
Now, December, to me, is like Jekyll and Hyde. π
December surely can br Jekyll and Hyde. It’s really crazy where I live, sometimes you might be out in shorts hanging Xmas lights, the next day you might be bundled up in so many clothes that you can’t move π
Ha ha ha. I can imagine. At least here we can rely on cold and damp. I don’t know which is worse. π But this too shall pass. <3
Beautiful, Lana. The charm of Autumn’s beauty… that magic of the season captured in your poem!
Thank you, Iris! π
I love your poem, Lana capturing the month perfectly… a great use of verbs here to capture this petulant month, skulking, snatching, prodding! November still seems to be lurking around here, windy, moody…I look forward to real winter frosts and perhaps some snow!π
Sounds cold, Annika. Snow is pretty, we don’t see much of it here. November is definitely moody. Thanks so much! π
Reblogged this on John Cowgill's Literature Site.
Thanks John!
You are very graciously welcome.
Lovely and very picturesque, which you do so creatively!
Thanks so much, Deborah! π
You’re so welcome, LT. Happy Holidays to you and your family!
Happy Holidays to you and your family, also!
Funny how different November and December can be! Seems we’ve gone from 60s to 30s overnight!
It is truly funny like that. It is super annoying too when mornings are cold and afternoons are mild and it’s almost impossible to dress for the day.
Layers, I think, are key. But don’t you HATE shopping in a heavy coat?!?
Oh yes, I’m all about layers, and I do hate the bulkiness of a heavy coat!
I can picture Autumn in my mind “hot-handed… in his blustery boots… tossing up a hissy fit and passing the mandate on to winter.” We’re in that mode now, 20 degrees at night, 60 by afternoon, blatant wind biting at our cheeks, snow threatening. Well done, Lana. π
It looks like about that time everywhere now. I said goodbye to my flowers last night :D. Thanks so much, Joan. It’s a good time to settle in with Peaches and have a nice cup of hot chocolate.
and that singer November brought us to Christmas seasons that we make lists for everything that is about to unfold. Oh November, it is really a month of remembrance, not only for the departed but November is a character month in the calendar of the year. Thank you for your cute poem, it was short and very pretty!
November is a great month for remembrance and reflection. We did have a pretty good one where I live as far as the weather goes. Now, it is finally cold π
“Like a spoiled canary” – what lovely pictures you always evoke in my mind, Lana! Hope you enjoy the coming winter even though I know you prefer summer! Love&hugs! β€
So far, so good, Sarah, but we have only had two cold days so far, ha ha! Love and hugs right back to you! π
Perfect description of the errant autumn. π xx
Thanks, Debby π
This is a well written piece. Thanks for sharing Lana.
Thank you for reading and for your gracious comment!
My pleasure!
