Au Revoir, Winter

The letter would read,

“Dear Denmark,

you can have your weather back!”

But I stopped short

seeing that chilly winter dame

already peeling

her widely flung arms

back into place

batting her mink lashes

now that the icicles had melted

from their luscious fringe

Spring’s sunny evidence

was popping up like sparklers

leapfrogging its way

into the atmosphere

You can count on spring

to make an entrance giggling

with her wind-swept tendrils

and whispered floral daydreams

Now just stop here

and call up the solitary girl

in the second story flat above

and tell her to put away the gray curtains

bring out the turquoise pillows

make a splash in yellow and

rush to the window,

feel the fleeting wonder of it,

breathe again.

Happy spring, Diana! Thank you for your gracious words. I am so happy to see spring after that crazy winter blast we had with the subzero temps. I’m all for twirling now!
