Suppose you were trapped
in some bad country song
as a steel guitar
ratchets your brain
your truck won’t start
your mother-in-law won’t stop
There’s conflict in that country
cause of the progressive artists
with great abs, and all
Feel those boots
scrape the back of your heel
and stale, slow notes
now taste bitter
This blame world is
messed up β moves too fast
full of bozo bohemians
and people who don’t think right
In this bad country song
the words come slowly enough
to grasp and
melt into fiddle strings
load the bloodhound up
and git on down the road…
Great shift in perspective, L. T. I’m trapped some days.
It’s like that some times π
Ugh!
Exactly!
That’s some bad country song! But you missed out the state of the beer…..
Oh my, how could I forget the alcohol?!
Reblogged this on John Cowgill's Literature Site.
Thank you, John π
You are very graciously welcome.
Sounds like a rough day, LT. I hope today is better. Do-si-do. π
It was a bit rough, ha ha…but somewhat better today π
OMG! being in a country song would be like a nightmare. no thanks!
Oh Jim, even if we could put you in a summertime country song? Maybe being trapped in any song would be bad unless it is one of those happy songs π
Eric Blair meets Eric… Church? In your capable hands LT more epic than Eric. Really enjoyed this (so what’s new π )
Thank you, Phil…and you know who Eric Church is? I’m impressed at your vast knowledge of music, I think you are branching out π
I think I am. Yes, Eric ‘God’s House’ as he’s not known round our way π
I love this. You capture the bitterness and that feeling of being pushed out of your place in the world as you know it. I think there’s part of the US that feels this way.
Yes, I think that is probably right that some people do feel that way. I know (in my red state) that a Facebook friend put on there how thankful she was that country music was back in the white house. I think it was only back there for the inauguration because they couldn’t get anyone else, but yes, the feeling of being pushed out of their place sums it up well. Thanks Diana!
I worry that a lot of people are going to be worse off and will feel even more alienated. And I doubt they’ll blame Trump.
I agree, Diana…and surely they won’t blame him.
I like country songs, even the sad ones. I don’t understand this cowboy-booted feller, but I can sympathize with him… Love the use of opposites in here , Lana.
your truck wonβt START
your mother-in-law wonβt STOP
load the bloodhound UP
and git on DOWN the road
Thank you, Joan! I must admit to liking some country songs, but probably not the “true” country.
Grrr…! Nope, I don’t fancy being trapped there at all, Lana! I hope you haven’t been either. Great physicality to this – ‘ratchets your brain’, ‘scrape the back of your heel’, ‘stale, slow notes/now taste bitter’.
There weren’t many takers wanting to be trapped on a bad country song, ha ha. Thank you for the compliment, Annika. You have such a keen eye and great insight into the art of language which is why your book reviews and poetry readings are a treat to read.
This gave me a smile – no matter how bad a day has been, it could have been worse … it could have played out with a country twang on it π
Oh yes, Joanne, ha ha…yes it could always be a worse day π Thanks for reading and commenting!
Uugh! That would be a horrible place to be trapped in! A good country song though… thatΒ΄s something entirely else! π
I agree, maybe a good one with someone cool like Keith Urban ;-D
Oh, yes, please!! π π
Country songs – booze, broken hearts and boots. π
Can you believe I forgot the beer? Lol!
Lol! π
