The Benefits of Melatonin

When the joyous years

crash your pretty sleep

and you can no longer

count sheep

Dust off the cap

to the melatonin

allow yourself to snooze

without all the groanin’

Insomnia, you are

one cursed bird

a supplement perhaps

does all that you’ve heard

or ditch the Visine

try some L-glycine

Dear body clock

I love you not

How must I digress

in all this mess

and then sleep so much

the less?

At the end of the day

dream your sleep troubles

away

Then see how you fair

don’t fall from your chair

if melatonin is not your kick

suffer then as a sleepy chick

or

pry eyes with small toothpicks….

  1. Sympathizing with you and the insomnia! My husband has it too and just started taking melatonin. It works!
(I enjoyed the video – what a flashback! The song and a young Dick Clark.) Thanks for this post, Lana. Hope you start getting some sleep! Valerian Root is also supposed to help.

    • Aha, I didn’t know about Valerian Root! Thanks so much, Betty. At least I’m on Xmas break now and don’t have to get up at 5 in the morning after being awake all night, sigh. Melatonin does help, sometimes better than others, but I’ve had some luck with it. Sorry that your husband also has issues, it is surely no fun. That song is wonderful, I love watching old Dick Clark videos, such a treasured throw-back. xx

      • Glad you’re on a break now, Lana. Hope you’re sleeping in a lot!
I’ve found various homeopathic remedies that also help with sleep problems. (No side-effects, very safe.) Those have helped me along with meditation. Will probably try the melatonin myself one of these days. Am just glad my husband is sleeping better – that has helped both of us!

        • I am all about homeopathic remedies, I want to avoid the standard “drugs.” I am sleeping in some and truly enjoying that. Thanks so much, Betty. I hope you are enjoying this wonderful season. xoxo

  2. Insomnia is for sure a problem of aging… explains why old people eat dinner at 4:30 PM and wake up at 4:30 AM for the day. LOVED THIS: “if melatonin is not your kick / suffer then as a sleepy chick / or / pry eyes with small toothpicks…” Love NCIS, but by 10 PM, need those toothpicks to keep the ol’ eyes open. Good rhyme and rhythm, fun poem! 🙂

    • Thanks Joan! Yes, it’s a big problem with getting older for sure. I’ve been dealing with it better since Melatonin and sleepy time tea. It is good sleeping weather here now, cloudy and cold 😀

  3. So sorry you suffer from insomnia, Lana! I know it only too well… Unfortunately melatonin isn’t available here in Germany, one would have to go to France for that. Valerian root doesn’t help me at all! 😂 Hope you get some nice good sleep over the holidays. Hugs!

    • Oh that is interesting that it isn’t available there, Sarah. I think it might work for you. It does help me, I can certainly tell a difference when I don’t take it at all. I have been sleeping in, a bit too much, ha ha. I always plan on accomplishing much during my time off. Key word there is “plan.” Hugs to you, my friend! xoxo

      • I just had a look and it seems it might be after all. I remember having a bad time with insomnia a couple of years ago and then it wasn’t . Seems things have changed for the better. I’m glad it helps you! And don’t use your time off for anything but relaxing a little – you’ve deserved it! xoxo ❤

  4. ooh Lana, your poem tells it all and I hope you are getting some good sleep! turn off all the morning clocks and just sleep until whatever time, and when you get up, you will be just fine! I wish you a Happy New Year 2018 and I know for sure we are going to have some good times throughout. Keep blogging and keep the good stuffs coming!
