Reluctant Alien

The little green man

nursed his slight gash

bleeding little green drops

resulting from

a deliberate bite

from a discontent, hairy beast

known as Bozo

this interrupted

his camera viewing

his aircraft watching

his human snatching

these nutty earthlings

both boring and hostile

engrossed in

their petty lives

But he is

injured now

no way to return

to paradise on Planet Z

his dreams

lapsing in nanoseconds

Absent of green fuel

and verdant vitality

his days now

perhaps will be

out here

hobnobbing with

with the smelly canine

sharing his sizable dog house

with the nubby rugs

stashed

among the vines

undetected by human eyes

  1. Hey Lana! What inspired writing. I assume you tagged it ‘humour’ because you’re imagining an alien’s predicament but I found a lot of sadness in it…you gave him enough depth to relate to him regardless of his alien-ness.

    • Ah, thanks so much, Mek. Sadness does always seem to creep into my work. I thought the humor portion came in with the alien attempting to get along with Bozo. There were other people who felt sorry for him too. I may have a to write a rescue mission, ha ha!

      • No, we do not need a happy ending. Happy is meaningless if there is no sorrow. It is the relative difference in states that we notice. Or maybe not, but either way, your post is great as is no matter how readers interpret it! And yes, the humour did come across too πŸ™‚

  2. Oh, Lana! You’re back! 😊 Love the alien poem (I’ve been a huge X-files fan back in the 90’s πŸ˜‰)! Hope everything is fine and well! Thanks for the Bowie video – I adore him! Hugs&love! 😊 xoxo

    • Hi Sarah! Yes, it’s me, ha ha. I’ve managed a bit of composure after my slight mental breakdown, lol. I loved watching 3rd Rock from the Sun. I have fond memories of that with my mom, she liked it also. Bowie is great, hands down across-the-board favorite. I hope you a doing well. Hugs and love to you! πŸ˜€ xoxoxo

      • I’m glad to hear that you’re feeling a bit better now, Lana. I was so worried…
Bowie was one of a kind, a true artist in every sense of the word.
        Hugs&love! xoxoxo ❀

        • Thank you, Sarah, You are such a dear and compassionate person. I’m so glad we are friends! I hope you have been doing a well and enjoying some creative time. Bowie was indeed a treasure. Hugs and love to you! xoxoxo πŸ˜€

  3. Fun to see your post pop up, Lana. I love the poem, but the poor little fellow! I feel so sorry for him. It’s great to “see” you. Hope you’re well and in the mood for spring. πŸ™‚

    • Hi Diana! My small mental breakdown proved to be cathartic, lol. I’ve still got work piled up, but I’ve gotten through some of it and as you pointed out, spring is almost upon us. I tend not to like winter much, so I”m happy about that and definitely in the mood for it. I hope you have been doing well and getting some writing tasks accomplished! πŸ˜€

  4. Hi Lana, nice to see you writing again… poignant piece. Glad you are back, hope you have had a restful break. Love and hugs ⚘

  5. Good to see you back, Lana. A lovely piece, it’s not easy being green, huh? I loved your outline of Mr Martian’s interrupted activities, like “camera viewing, aircraft watching, and human snatching,” and how he ends up “hobnobbing with the smelly canine.” That doesn’t sound too bad, actually. Maybe I’ll hobnob with mine on the couch for a nap. πŸ™‚

    • Thank you, Joan! It’s definitely not easy being a little green man left behind. I think he and the dog will become good friends. I also frequently hobnob with my dog on the couch, haha! Hope you are enjoying some lovely spring napping weather!

  6. hoo hoo Lana is back, I am smiling! and poor little fella. They better not kill Alien, they will be in trouble with my daughter, aliens are her favourite people, she will go all the way to destroy them and save aliens hahahah! Was a nice poem and let’s hope you will come back often and quickly. I hope your daffodils are in bloom – Happy Spring Lana!

    • Well hello Juli, my lovely decorator friend πŸ˜€ I’m glad your daughter is a protector of aliens, haha. Lots of people liked this one and were sad he was left behind. I may have to write a rescue sequel, lol. I don’t have anything blooming right now, but it sure won’t be long. I hope you are enjoying a beautiful spring also, Juli. It is so nice to talk with you again! πŸ˜€
