slipped from a dream

transfixed, I stood there

when hot hands touched
palm to palm
the holy palmer’s kiss
the clock stopped
like a time travel pendulum
Look there now
I was never the sun
knowing full well
than to swear by the moon
that deceptive luminare
casting upon
a jewel in the night
tears falling down on the cheek of those
destined to part in sweet sorrow
love that was stronger
but burned less
than moderate mankind
could handle…

Beautiful poem with wonderful refences to Shakespeare’s words and plots. The tale of the ‘star-crossed lovers’ is, indeed, heartbreaking.
It is truly heartbreaking. The kids have been studying Romeo and Juliet which brought this to mind. I’ve been wanting to pop one of those movies in and watch so think I’m putting that on the calendar for when the Rock Guy goes to California to play his music. If I do it when he is home, he will run screaming from the room, lol.
Oh dear … conflict of interest makes for a lot of fun. Most students enjoy studying Romeo and Juliet, especially if there’s a DVD to watch with it.
Does Rock Guy play in a band? (I’m obviously behind on this.)
They do love a DVD for sure. The Rock Guy does have a band called Hell on Wheels. He plays music in the style of Led Zeppelin, Van Halen…rock bands (classic rock as it is called now). He is an accomplished song writer and guitarist. I’m jealous, I always wanted to be a musician 🙂
Melancholic, yes, but sweet also. Shakespeare was a master with words. You did him proud in this poem.
That’s a wonderful compliment coming from a writing teacher. I never tire of Shakespeare, and I’ve been wanting to watch Romeo and Juliet since the high school kids have been studying it (I’m a substitute teacher). Thanks again for reading 🙂
